Himarrou Tower
Location: southeastern part of the island and Mount Jupiter, near the area of Klidhou.
Description: an imposing 4th century (Hellenistic Period) 3-story circular fortress, standing at a height of 15 meters. Located in the center of a square court encircled by a sturdy wall, it is made of local marble. It was used as an observation post and a point for the transmission of news by fire, every time pirate ships were spotted in the Aegean Sea. The tower always created a formidable impression, and as a result the “kotsakia” (local songs) would be referred to in popular poetic couplets. Its presence next to two small churches, contributes to the harmonious bond of the ancient world with the Christian world.
