  • Traditional Olive Oil Press of Naxos

Location - Operation: at Damalas village (14 kilometers)

Description: the traditional olive press was originally housed in an 1850 stone building, and operated up until 1960.

Since the year 2000, we now see the reconstructed old olive oil press of the village housed in a specially designed exhibition site. It became a reality thanks to a few Damala residents and the financial support of the Ministry of Culture.

At the olive press, the visitor can appreciate the way olive oil was produced, observing the manually operated machinery (cylinders, whim and worker), as well as the tools that were used.

Furthermore, the manner in which the workers carried out their work is described in detail through hanging pictures accompanied by informative drawings.
