Naxos is an island rich in history and many monuments dating from ancient times that can be seen today. It is not by accident that the island has also been called “Dionysos’ and Ariadne’s island” – as tradition has it, and evidenced furthermore by the remains of archaeological buildings – there was an intense worship of various deities on the island, apart from Dionysos. The archaeological sites, spread throughout the entire island, take the visitor on a journey to far-off periods in history. We present here some of the main archaeological sites of interest on the island.
