  • Ag. Georgios Diasoritis

    Location: at Halki village

Description: an 11th century temple, discernible at least from its frescoes. These murals certify that the painting was in full bloom on the island during the 11th and 12th centuries. Monuments, like Panagia Protothronos and Ag. Georgios Diasoritis, reveal that Halki village, during the Byzantine Period, was an important settlement and the administrative center that oversaw the island’s hinterland. According to the research, Ag. Georgios Diasoritis was built on top of the ancient temple of Zeus.
